Counseling doesn't have to be long to be impactful
Even one session with a trained counselor can make a huge difference!
Brief Individual Counseling
Brief counseling focuses on achieving specific goals within a limited number of sessions. This short-term approach to counseling is more efficient, cost-effective, and accessible. SMA uses an adapted model that consists of between one to three sessions. This model is ideally suited to address the nationwide shortage of mental health providers and meet the growing need for services.
Brief counseling is preventative. It can be used to effectively address issues in their early stages and prevent them from escalating into more serious mental health concerns. By providing timely support and guidance, brief counseling offers individuals the opportunity to overcome challenges before they become too difficult to manage.
SMA brief counseling is primarily rooted in the principles Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). We also provide brief counseling based on Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with adaptations to maximize utility for people facing a variety of challenges.
We are currently offering brief counseling to youth and women in New Jersey and New York. We hope to move into other states very soon!
